| Brief Biography: A. J. Gross, eighty-one years old, retired merchant who operated a store at 911 North Second Street fifty-five years, died last night at the family home, 911-1/2 North Second Street. Born in New York City, Mr. Gross came to St. Joseph fifty-eight years ago after living in Weston, MO., with his parents several years.
Although not active in fraternal or political organizations, Mr. Gross had numerous acquaintances. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elisabeth Gross; a son, Matt J. Gross, Monmouth, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. C.E. Garder, Miss Millie Gross, and Mrs. A.T. Steinel, widow of a former employee of The Gazette and The News-Press; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper, St. Joseph, and three grandchildren. The body is at the E. R. Sidenfaden mortuary. |
