Brief Biography: Jack W. Clayton 1932-2012 Posted Dec 29, 2012 News-Press Now Jack Woodside Clayton, 80, St. Joseph, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph, where he was born on August 4, 1932. Jack married Sharon “Suzy” McKernan on August 27, 1960. She survives of the home. He attended Central High School, where he graduated in 1951. He then attended University of Missouri-Columbia and served in the Korean War for the United States Army. Jack was the owner of Sheridan Clayton Paper from 1956 to 1987, and Clayton Paper and Distribution from 1992 until present. He served on many boards, including United Missouri Bank and Commerce Bank, the youngest director for Mechanic Bank, President of St. Joseph Country Club, President of Mount Mora Cemetery, a member of the Boosters Club, Jesters, NPTA, ISSA, and The United Group. Mr. Clayton was an avid golfer and tennis player and loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Patee Clayton. Survivors: wife of 52 years; daughters, Jackie Davis (Lyle), Liberty, Mo., and Julie Guemmer (Derek), Kansas City, Mo.; son, Jim Clayton (Jenni), St. Joseph; grandchildren, Mattie, Ben, Reid, Catherine, Jack, and Olivia; sister, Martha Jean Burleson, Temple, Texas; and many nieces. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Monday, Ashland United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
