BALLINGER RITES

Pioneer St. Joseph Woman, 94, to be Buried Tomorrow in Mount Mora Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ballinger, ninety-four years old, member of a pioneer St. Joseph family, who died early yesterday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William S. Snail, 610 North Twenty third street, will be tomorrow morning. The service will be at Wyethewood, the home of Mrs. Huston Wyeth, daughter of Mrs. Ballinger, and will be conducted by the Rev. C. Hely Molony, rector of Christ Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Mount Mora Cemetery. Mrs. Ballinger rode in the parade here which celebrated the start of the Pony Express and built the six story building at Seventh and Edmond streets that bears the family name. Born in Louisville, Ky. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kuechle who moved there from Germany, Mrs. Ballinger came to St. Joseph at the age of five years with her parents. The latter were proprietors of the St. Joseph Brewery, owning the entire block at Eighth and Charles streets, where the interurban station later was located. She was among the first students at the Convent of the Sacred Heart of this city, attending the school when it was located at Fourth and Sylvanie streets, then a residence district. In her teens, she was married to Isaac Ballinger. They both were communicants of Christ Episcopal Church, of which he was a vestryman. Mrs. Ballinger manifested a keen interest in business and current affairs. After her husband's death, she built the structure that bears his name and at one time managed a ranch of 98,000 acres which her husband had leased from the Cherokee Indians in the Indian Territory. Mrs. Ballinger spent most of her life in St. Joseph. Surviving are her two daughters, six grandchildren, John and William Wyeth, president and vice-president of the Wyeth Hardware Company, Mrs. Kenyon V. Painter and Mrs. Forrest Campbell of St. Joseph and Mrs. Richard Lyon and Miss Elise Coulter Pasadena, Cal., and eight great-grandchildren, Kenyon V. Painter Jr., Allison Painter, Mrs. John Smith, Stewart Campbell, Miss Margaret Wyeth, Miss Shirley Wyeth, John Wyeth Jr. and William Wyeth II. The body is at the Heaton-BeGole & Bowman mortuary.
