Brief Biography: St. Joseph Gazette April 30, 1879 It is with sincere regret that we are called upon to announce the death of Christian C. Hartwig, which occurred at Wichita, Kansas, at noon yesterday. The remains will reach this city today and the funeral will take place tomorrow from the residence of Major H.R.W. Hartwig on Water street. Mr. Hartwig was a brother of Major H.R.W. Hartwig and Ernst F. Hartwig, merchants of this city. He was a young man of excellent character and fine business qualifications, and in the few years of his stay among us he endeared himself to a goodly host of warm friends, by his gentle disposition and rare social qualities. He was about 32 years of age, came to this city from Germany about three and a half years ago, married Miss Clara Wiedmaier five months agoin, and was comfortably settled in a prosperous business at Wichita, Kansas. His young widow and two brothers have the profound sympathy of this community in their great grief.
