Service arrangements for Mrs. Cordelia Hawkins, 96, are pending the arrival of her son, Coleman Hawkins, New York City, on Monday. The body is at Alexander mortuary.
Mrs. Hawkins, 1713 Angelique street, died Thursday night at a St. Joseph hospital. Born near Plattsburg, she had lived here the greater part of her life. She was the widow of Will Hawkins, who died in 1935. She belonged to Christ Episcopal Church.
In addition to her son, survivors include three grandchildren.
Services
Services for Mrs. Cordelia Hawkins, 96, 1713 Angelique street will be at 2:00 Friday in the chapel of the Alexander Mortuary. The Rev. Howard C. Rutenbar will officiate, and interment will be at Mount Mora cemetery.
Mrs. Hawkins, a resident here most of her life, died a week ago tonight at a St. Joseph Hospital. Mr. Hawkins died in 1935. Born near Plattsburg, she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and was a life member of the Art Lover's Club.

WALKED INTO RIVER
Negro Lighted Pipe, Adjusted Glasses and Then Disappeared.
In a nonchalant manner, Bill Hawkins, colored, sixty years old, stood on the bank of the Missouri River at noon today, lighted his pipe, adjusted his glasses, buttoned his dark blue overcoat and calmly walked into the river at the foot of Francis Street.
Miss Corneliua Plato and Arthur Adams, employees of the Pioneer Sand Company, saw Hawkins in the water and aid that he floated in an eddy several minutes before he disappeared, Andrew Schleicer, another witness, said that Hawkins looked at a yellow piece of paper before he walked into the water.

The body of William D. Hawkins, sixty-two years old, a Negro packer employed at the American Electric Company, who committed suicide by walking into the Missouri River at the foot of Francis street, March 4, was found yesterday afternoon seven miles south of Atchison, Kan. The body is at the home, 1713 Angelique street, pending funeral arrangements.

Epithet: Cordelia Coleman Hawkins and William Hawkins were the parents of Jazz Great Coleman Hawkins. Young Coleman was born in St. Joseph and moved at a young age to Topeka where he first learned to play. The family returned to St. Joseph in the twenties, but Coleman had already started to play professionally. William would die in 1935. Cordelia would die at the age of 96, in January 2014 just five months before her son Coleman Hawkins died at age 64 in New York.
