John Bauer, a pioneer resident of St. Joseph, died, at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at his home at 921 North Twelfth street. He was eighty-two years old and had lived in this city more than eighty years.
Mr. Bauer was born June 24, 1846, at Baden, Germany. His parents brought him to this country when he was a baby. After living a year in Cincinnati, Ohio, the family settled in St. Joseph.
As a boy Mr. Bauer worked in the old Patee House, once St. Joseph's best hotel. Later he was employed for twenty years by the Henry Voss Wall Paper Company and for several years was a manufacturer of mattresses, with a factory at 315 Robidoux street. He retired in 1917.
His first wife died in 1899 and in 1903 he married Minnie Garrod, who survives him. He also is survived by a son, Milton J. Bauer, Kansas City; two brothers , Charles and Mike Bauer, Wathena, Kan., and a sister, Mrs. Henry Evans, Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Private funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the family home by the Reverend Mr. Fowler of Wathena, Kan. Burial will be in Mount Mora Cemetery. |
